Amarnath Overview

Location:

Mythology:

According to Hindu mythology, the Amarnath Cave is where Lord Shiva revealed the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati. To ensure no living being could overhear, he chose the secluded cave as the site for this divine revelation.

Routes:

The pilgrimage has two main trekking routes—one via Pahalgam, which is longer and more traditional, and another via Baltal, which is shorter but steeper.

Location:

The Vaishno Devi Temple is situated on the Trikuta Mountains near Katra in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, at an altitude of 1,584 meters (5,200 feet).

Vaishno Devi is one of the holiest Hindu shrines dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi, who is considered a manifestation of Goddess Durga.

The shrine is known for the sacred cave where the goddess is worshipped in the form of three natural rock formations, called Pindis, symbolizing the Goddesses Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati.

Mythology:

According to legend, Goddess Vaishno Devi took shelter in the Trikuta Mountains while fleeing from the demon Bhairon Nath, whom she later defeated.

The shrine marks the place where she decided to reside eternally to bless her devotees.

Vaishno Devi Yatra

Starting Point:

The pilgrimage begins from Katra, a base town located about 13 kilometers (8 miles) from the shrine.

Devotees can reach the shrine on foot, on horseback, in palanquins, or via helicopter services up to Sanjichhat, which is close to the temple.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Srinagar Airport – Sonmarg (100 Kms)

On arrival, our representative will meet you at the airport and immediately drive to Sonmarg, which will take about 3 hours to reach the destination.

Check-in: Check into the hotel.

Day 2: Sonmarg – Baltal – Panchtarni – Amarnath Ji – Panchtarni – Srinagar

Leave after early breakfast and a short drive will take you to Baltal (Helipad).

Helicopter Ride: Board into the helicopter and enjoy a short ride to Panchtarni.

Amarnath Cave Journey: From Panchtarni to Amarnath Ji Cave it is about 6 Kms by foot / Horse / Palki, which will take about 1 and half hours to reach the cave depending on the rush of the yatries.

Return Journey: On the return, take helicopter back to Baltal and another 3 hours drive will take you to Srinagar.

Dinner and overnight stay at Houseboat / Hotel.

Day 3: Srinagar

Shikara Ride: Enjoy the Shikara ride on Dal Lake, the beauty that God has graced this city with, which is often compared to Venice.

You will get a view of some very interesting places around the lake.

Day 4: Srinagar – Katra

Morning check out from hotel and drive to Katra.

Arrival in Katra: Evening reach Katra and check in at hotel.

Day 5: Katra – Vaishno Devi Darshan

Darshan Visit: Morning proceed to Vaishno Devi Darshan by foot or by helicopter (by own expense).

Evening back to Katra.
